Cold feet and hands, chilblains, even indoors. Uncomfortable and painful. Usually the result of poor circulation.
1. Eat yourself warm
Not with alcohol, which works against the blood vessels. But with garlic, berries, oily fish, iron-rich food, ginger and green tea. A daily herbal tea with ginger can change something seemingly small.
2. Avoid large temperature differences
Warm up slowly. Dress in breathing layers, wool and cotton, not too tight. Suddenly entering a room that is too cold, or putting on gloves that are too warm after hours of cold, irritates circulation rather than helps it.
3. Move
Wiggle your toes. Move as much as possible. At the office: rotate your feet, loosen your wrists. It helps.
4. A foot bath
Take a foot bath with ginger, lavender or cayenne pepper. Lukewarm, not hot. Ten minutes. Dry well afterwards and apply a moisturising cream.
5. The right textile
Down slippers and down gloves keep you warm even indoors. Not to sleep in, your feet must be able to breathe at night, but to soften the passage from cold floor to warm bed.
