  • Why some people are grumpy in the morning
  • September 30, 2023 by

About 16% of the population suffers from a morning mood. Four possible causes.

    Four causes

A lack of sleep or an irregular pattern. Hormonal fluctuations. Sleep inertia: in 6 out of 10 people not all parts of the brain wake at the same time. And simply: being an evening or night person. That is in the DNA. There is little to be done about it.

    What helps

Begin with sleep hygiene, regularity, small rituals, no alcohol or caffeine in the evening.

    Indulging the senses

Indulging the senses helps too. Let the sunlight in. Open the windows. Seek out fresh scents. Pour a warm cup of coffee. All those impressions tell the brain that a new day begins.

    Movement

Moving, talking, singing, however tired one is. It helps the brain get going faster.
