The Vision of Frans Jozef Albert
The passion of the Oeyen brothers, the seed for the Fja-Oeyen tradition.
Every story has a seed. The one of Fja-Oeyen was written in the 1930s, in the silence of a tailor’s workshop. The Oeyen brothers, driven by a pure passion for textiles, laid the foundation for a tradition of unmatched craftsmanship. A tradition tested and forged in the fire of history.

1940-1945
The Storm
An act of resistance during the Second World War shaped Fja-Oeyen's deep-seated drive to protect.
World War II raged through Europe and forced great-grandfather Frans Jozef Albert Oeyen out of his workshop. He was violently taken from his home in Mol and obliged to work in Germany. It is a story passed on in the family—about his son, little Gust, who refused to watch his father being taken away. He ran at the soldiers in fury and kicked them in the shins. A small act of resistance, born out of deep love. An instinctive attempt to protect his home, his family, his cocoon. That same impulse still lies at the heart of Fja-Oeyen.
1948
The Revelation
How a vision in the wake of war led to the perfect night's sleep.
When Albert returned, the world he had known was gone. The tailor’s shop lay in ruins. The nights were cold, the sleep restless under heavy, stifling wool blankets. Out of despair, during sleepless nights, the revelation came: the down duvet.
He did not see a product. He saw an answer, a calling, a weapon against cold and unrest.
Fifties
The Quest
With determination and the demand for only the best, Frans Jozef Albert Oeyen obtained his first precious shipment of down.
With nothing but his last savings and unyielding vision, he set out for the great textile fair in Frankfurt. A David among the Goliaths of the industry. He had no capital, no purchase orders—only determination.
His words became family legend: "I don’t know how much you can offer me, but I only want the best."
And it worked. He returned to Mol with his first, precious load of down.
1958
The Creation
Using his knowledge as a tailor, Albert created the very first Fja-Oeyen cocoon.
In the quiet of his attic in the Kempen, Albert drew the patterns with a tailor’s mastery, sewed the ticking, and filled it flake by flake. He didn’t just create a duvet—he created the first Fja-Oeyen cocoon.
2008
Boutique Antwerp
A second boutique, in Antwerp that radiated confidence and hope.
At the height of the crisis years, Piet Oeyen (3rd generation) opened a second boutique, Antwerp. Modest in size, but immense in meaning. More than a shop, it became a beacon of confidence and hope.
Today
Present and Future
The fourth generation of Oeyen continues the family tradition.
The passion and dedication of the first three generations are the driving force behind the fourth generation of the Oeyen family. It is their responsibility and privilege to uphold this family tradition.
Today, from Mol and Antwerp — with the calm Kempen as our source — we watch over every creation that leaves our house, staying true to the voice of our forefather.
