WHICH DUVET SHOULD I BUY?

MAKING LISTS

The easiest way to get started is by listing what you’re looking for and what you need in a duvet. One way to do that is to start by thinking of what isn’t serving you with your current duvet or blanket.

  • Does it feel heavy?
  • Does it take a while before you’re nice and warm?
  • Do you wake up sweaty?
  • Was your duvet just fine but is it in need of replacement?

Does your current duvet feel flat and cold?

WHERE DO I START MY SEARCH FOR A NEW DUVET?

With the information you’ve gathered you’re ready to go.

  • If your previous duvet felt heavy and you’d like to switch it up for a lighter one then your best choice will be a duvet made of not just 100% down, but big down flakes. Big down flakes create more volume without adding weight, and without compromising on warmth. You could say it’s the top quality amongst down duvets. Duvets that consist of feathers, even if it’s only a small percentage, will always weigh more.
  • Are you looking for a duvet that warms up quickly? Then it’s important that your duvet has good insulation, but also that its cover is very thin. A thinner cover will warm you and your bed up much faster. Meaning you’ll be able to enjoy a warm and comfortable night’s rest without waiting long.
  • Is perspiration an issue for you? Make sure you don’t choose a heavy duvet, it will only worsen the perspiration as breathability will be low.
  • Was you previous duvet just fine, but in need of replacement? Or does it feel flat and cold? This means it’s not actually due for replacement, but rather for a professional cleaning. The down and its cover will be washed separately, and the dover may even be replaced if necessary.
  • Was your duvet good in the past but not anymore? Does it feel flat and cold? That means it's due for a professional cleaning. The down and the cover are washed separately to ensure that the dirt from the down clusters doesn't remain in the corners of the cover.

WHERE DO I START, THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF DUVETS

We’re convinced that a search should start online, so you an soak up first impressions. The next step is visiting stores, and making it a priority to feel the duvets on offer. A good test is to lay the duvet on your hand, and assess if it’s actually absorbing your body heat as you’re being told it does. You can also scrunch it to feel if it contains feathers. Regardless of what the label says, it’s good to test it yourself!

Buying a duvet is an investment, not just a purchase. It adds to a qualitative night’s rest, just like a good mattress and pillow.

Truth be told, you need to test it before buying it. It’s the only way to know for sure if it’s the right duvet for you. At Fja-Oeyen we offer the experience, which allows you to test one of our duvets for 7 days, free of charge. If you’re not convinced, we won’t be offended, we’ll simply take it back.
